Barro Alto anniversary: 14 November

Barro Alto celebrates its anniversary on 14 November. The date comes from State Law no. 2,139 of 14 November 1958, which raised the former district of Pirenópolis to the status of municipality. The official installation took place on 1 January 1959. In 2026, the town turns 68.

Why 14 November

There are other important dates in the town’s formation — the arrival of the Rabelo da Silva brothers around 1940, the chapel of 1956, the creation of the district in October 1958 — but the City Hall adopts 14 November 1958 as the founding date. See the timeline in history of Barro Alto.

How past celebrations went

The most detailed record we found is that of the 59th anniversary, in 2017, published by the regional press:

• a programme from 11 to 14 November, at Lago Serra do Níquel;
• concerts with sertanejo (Brazilian country music) artists;
• a horseback ride (cavalgada) with hundreds of riders, setting out from the district of Souzalândia on a route of about 15 km, followed by lunch.

In 2025, the holiday was followed by the Cavalgada Amigos do Estradão (15 November), organised by the Rural Union.

2026: 68 years

As of this update (4 October 2026), no official programme had been published. When the City Hall announces it, we will update the events calendar. If you are coming for the celebration:

• November is already the rainy season: bring a raincoat and suitable footwear for outdoor events;
• check whether 14 November falls on a weekday: shops and public offices may have special hours.
